"In suspension". Work is arguably movement, activity, fulfillment, and somehow it is one of those things that makes us human. If the activity that people have been educated for or interested in is taken away, we lose an essencial part of ourselves. All this, without going into details, about what we call monthly salary and that in addition to reward us, helps us to live.
"In suspension" talks not only about employment, reflects on how the economic and employment situation has consequences in the social or personal life of each individual. Unemployment contributes to social or personal curtailment. The goals and dreams of hundreds of thousands of people have been deferred, have been placed in a state of suspension, hoping that things become better. Therefore, as in his work, the employee has placed his life in suspension , in the air, wandering aimlessly…
"In Suspension" is a project of photography and video, where Alvaro Martínez Alonso shows his personal view about a collective issue, the current financial, labour and social crisis that Spain is going through nowadays. The artist has portrayed workers from different sectors, airborne in their daily working environment, adding cold, agonizing and dark realism to the presented scenes, a powerful reflection of the introduced situation.
