"The Art of Memory", Tamara Arroyo
September 16th - October 15th 2010
The Art of Memory titles the project that works on the idea of representing places, moments and objects that belong to the personal recollections the artist keeps at heart. In this case the project is composed of three series of drawings entitled "Memory Exercises II", "Memory Exercises III" and "The Art of Memory", as well as some video animations. The first two series consist of drawings of music players the artist remembers from some given periods of her past and of the cars her family owned during her childhood and teenage. The third series of drawings, "The Art of Memory", shares its name with the whole exhibition (and also with a book by Frances A . Yates) and aims to be a reflection on some processes found in academic artistic education through ink drawings of classic models, some of them transformed into Super Heroes and other characters . And finally completing the exhibition, we are showing some video animations referring to the previous series, which are connected to them by means of small actions or “memory exercises”.
Tamara Arroyo has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions, such as Doméstico 02 or Miestrastanto. She has obtained important prizes and scholarships , including I Premio Ciudad de Palma, Beca Generación 2003 or Beca de la Casa Velázquez. In 2007 she participated in the young artists project Pilot 03, at the Venice Biennale. In 2007 she participated in the proyect “Legazpolis”/Internediae in Matadero, Madrid.
