Pedro Luis Cembranos
represented artist
In his work, which takes the form of narrative systems based on series or sets, Pedro Luis Cembranos tackles the strategies that encode the individual in their social setting and how such strategies shape one's everyday privacy. He ironically questions the social structures that form an individual, setting down norms and behaviours established by society and by the collective.
With graphic backgrounds of cuttings -original material or from mass communication media- his work alludes to concepts such as memory and time, displaying a wounding apocalypse culture tending towards the marginal and the anecdotic.
Pedro Luis Cembranos (Madrid, 1973) has made various solo and group exhibitions in and out of Spain and his works have received grants and awards such as the mention of Honor in “Generación 2003” generation and “Generación 2006”, the grant of the Druckvereiningung Foundation of Germany in the year 2007, creation scholarship of the CPS of Lisbon in 2008. In 2009 you get aid to the international mobility Matadero-Madrid in Brazil. He has also received scholarships at the Museum of Contemporary Ert of Essaouira, in Morocco, or aid to creation Matadero-Madrid 2010.
